Liaison Responsibilities 2007-8
Thank you for volunteering to be a liaison for AGATE of Port Washington. Your role is critical to providing community outreach and making the resources of AGATE available to parents and educators in the school district.
In order to qualify for the position of liaison, you must be (or become) a
·Current member in good standing of AGATE of Port Washington
·Current member of AGATE in New York State, Inc. (optional, but encouraged)
There will be two liaisons to each school or organization. Please work with your co-liaison so that each of the duties described below can be accomplished.
·Open House Night at your school: Make arrangements to have an AGATE table. Approach the PEP teacher in advance to distribute AGATE materials, including membership form. Set up a presentation to PEP parents if possible.
·Open House Night at another school: Sit at the AGATE table, answer questions and distribute membership forms.
·Develop relationship with HSA/PTA board and all advanced education program faculty at your school (e.g. Principal, PEP teachers, AP/honors teachers, Math Resource teachers, guidance, etc.). Make sure they have any relevant resource materials and know how to contact you.
·HSA/PTA meetings (only one rep need attend each meeting): Attend your school’s meetings regularly, ask to be put on the agenda, announce next program, and make yourself available for questions afterwards. Bring membership forms to each meeting.
·Newsletters: Provide AGATE publicity chair with contact information of school newsletter editors and deadlines for submission of content (ongoing).Ensure that AGATE news is mentioned in every print / electronic newsletter.Provide copy of newsletter to AGATE Corresponding Secretary.
·Generate new membership: Try to obtain contact information for parents of PEP students and encourage them to join AGATE. Identify families whose interests AGATE might potentially serve and encourage them to join/participate (families whose children did not qualify for PEP or is too young to be eligible).
·AGATE membership: Be an active member - Read correspondence, articles, etc. Attend meetings regularly. Bring issues that have surfaced at your school/organization to the attention of the AGATE executive board.
·AGATE liaison meetings: Attend meetings regularly (held 2-3 times per school year).
·Advisory Committee role: Liaisons are members of the AGATE Advisory Committee. Be a participatory member - respond to discussions when input is requested.
If you are unable to fulfill your duties for any reason, please notify the Liaison Chair.
